Taxes are due on May 15th!

Apr 14th, 2008 by Admin | 0

In case you are one of the unlucky few who have to pay taxes, I have some really good news for you. Jefferson Park and all other Atlanta neighborhoods are in a federal disaster area and have been given an extension on filing (and paying) taxes. Instead of paying on April 15th, you can now wait until May 15th. The IRS already has our zip code flagged, so you don’t have to do anything.

In case you don’t believe me, here’s the information from the IRS:

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=180802,00.html

I didn’t believe it either, so I called. They checked our zip code and confirmed that 30344 is included in the disaster area and will not have to file/pay until May 15th. Confirmed from agent #5906171.

Earth Hour 2008

Mar 27th, 2008 by Admin | 0

earth hourOn March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

Everyone in Jefferson Park is encouraged to participate in Earth Hour if they are able.  It’s always a good idea to turn off lights and other appliances when not in use, and this hour really stresses its importance and effect.
