Where is Jefferson Park?
Defined as the East Point, Georgia, neighborhood of nearly 1100 rental and privately-owned residences bordered by the Atlanta City Line to the North, Cleveland Avenue to the South, Sylvan Road to the east, and Main Street to the west, and including Tri-Cities High School.

We are within walking distance to the East Point MARTA station. Many of our residents commute regularly via train to and from work downtown. The East Point MARTA station is two stops from the Atlanta airport, and 5 stops from downtown Atlanta.

Simply come to the meetings, held the third tuesday of every month, or email the president at jpnapresident@gmail.com. Everyone is welcome!

When does the JPNA meet?
JPNA Meets the third Tuesday of every month, 7pm, in the Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church (we’re in the lower level fellowship hall – go around to the back of the church and you’ll see the cars).  We even post signs at the neighborhood entrances to remind you!

How do I research the history of my home? *Property deeds are found in the basement of the Fulton County Courthouse (141 Pryor St.). These records give you the names of owners, dates of purchase, property description and, in the older ones, a purchase price.
Property Deeds.

Deeds are recorded by grantor (seller), and by grantee (buyer); grantor on one side of the room and grantee on the other. They are arranged alphabetically and by date. You can begin by looking for the last sale of the house (your own) and working backwards by grantee. Each recording refers you back to the previous sale; book and page #s. The older deed books are very large with handwritten entries, which can sometimes be difficult to read.

You might come across a “quit-claim” deed, which is stored in a different place. This deed simply transfers a piece of property with no guarantee — what you see is what you get. Mostly used for transfer of an estate, from husband to wife or from parents to a son or daughter. Also, some deeds will be a title change only, as for a loan.

Atlanta City Directories. Atlanta city directories are found in the genealogy room of the Atlanta Public Library (One Margaret Mitchell Square, 404-730-1700) and The Atlanta History Center’s (130 West Paces Ferry Road NW, 404-814-4000) research room.  There is a book for each year. These books list the occupant of the house — Head of house and wife if it’s a married man, and occupations. These are listed by street address, giving the occupant; and by name of occupant, giving street address. They do not list children, but they do give other information, such as if this street was paved and if it had water run to it. Also, other bits about the city in that year. It is important to remember that the street numbers changed in 1927 so if you are looking for a listing by street number prior to that date, you will first have to check the Directory for 1927 where both numbers are given to determine the old number. A number of the street names have changed, as well. This happened at different times so you just have to pay attention to the name as you are going through the books unless you know it is the original name.

How do broken street lights get fixed?
You! If you see a street light that is out, follow these steps:
1. Put a marker on the light pole (maybe staple a piece of red paper?)
2. Call 404-270-7001 and choose option #6 (to report a power outage)
3. Tell them how you labeled the light pole and where it is located.
4. Ask for a ticket number. You can call back and refer to this if it is not fixed.
5. The lights are usually fixed in 72 hours! Thanks so much for your help!

How do we clean up the neighborhood’s appearance?
To help our neighborhood look clean and tidy, if you see grass that is overgrown or broken down cars, call Code Enforcement at (404) 761–2177 or fill out the form online.  Always provide the exact location of the problem, including the house number. Give a specific description of the complaint (i.e., vehicle make, model, tag number).
